Me ha costado ponerme a escribir sobre este lugar porque no sé si voy a ser capaz de condensar toda su maravillosa esencia en este artículo. No exagero si os digo que entra directamente a mi Top 5 de localizaciones favoritas. Y os aseguro que he visitado muchos espacios increíbles en mi vida gracias a los servicios de localizaciones que presto a productoras, agencias y a otro tipo de empresas y a esta desviación profesional que una tiene cuando viaja. Soy fan de localizar y de las localizaciones con encanto. Pero Munga es mucho más que todo eso.

En este artículo voy a intentar acercaros un poquito de la energía que desprende este lugar y la maravillosa decoración que tiene. Seguro que me quedaré corta, porque lo de este espacio te deja sin palabras cuando te propones la ardua tarea de tratar de describirlo y también te deja con la boca abierta si tienes la suerte de poder visitarlo y como yo, eres un enamorado de la decoración o del diseño de interiores y quieres pararte a observar los detalles que encontrarás en cada esquina. Literal, os lo prometo. Aquí hay que ir con los ojos bien abiertos para que no se te escape nada. Así que igualmente las imágenes se quedarán cortas.

También os contaré la historia de Gabriela y de Mounir, los propietarios de Munga y finalizaré con un par de recomendaciones locales interesantes e imprescindibles si visitáis este encantador pueblito.

Doy gracias a Rizk por mostrarme espacios de Munga que no aparecen ni siquiera en la web, por su atención y por todos los detalles. También al equipo de Munga, que son siempre todo sonrisas y super cercanos: camareros, staff de limpieza y recepción, a Munir por su amabilidad y disposición en todo momento y a Gabriela por su cercanía y simpatía.

It has been hard for me to write about this place because I do not know if I will be able to condense all its wonderful essence in this article. I am not exaggerating if I tell you that it enters directly into my Top 5 favorite locations. And I assure you that I have visited many incredible spaces in my life thanks to the location services I provide to production companies, agencies and other types of businesess and to this professional deviation that one has when traveling. I'm a fan of location scouting and charming locations. But Munga is much more than all that.

In this article I am going to try to bring you a little bit of the energy that this place gives off and the wonderful decoration it has. Surely I will fall short, because this space leaves you speechless when you set yourself the arduous task of trying to describe it and also leaves you with your mouth open if you are lucky enough to visit it and like me, you are a lover of decoration or interior design and want to stop and observe the details you'll find in every corner. Literally, I promise. Here you have to go with your eyes wide open so you don't miss anything. So equally the images will fall short.

I will also tell you the story of Gabriela and Mounir, the owners of Munga and finish with a couple of interesting and essential local recommendations if you visit this charming little town.

I thank Rizk for showing me places in Munga that do not even appear on the web, for his attention and for all the details. Also to the Munga team, who are always all smiles and super friendly: waiters, cleaning staff and reception, to Munir for his kindness and willingness at all times and to Gabriela for her closeness and friendliness.

Tagazhout es un encantador pueblecito de pescadores a 19km al norte de Agadir y Munga Guesthouse le encaja perfecto. La villa es conocida por ser un paraíso para los surfistas y tiene esas vibraciones de los lugares frecuentados por surferos. Es muy artístico, con mucha energía positiva, un poco hippie y con aires de libertad. Si no surfeáis, este pueblito también os encantará. Es perfecto para desconectar y para bajar el ritmo y sus habitantes son sencillos, cercanos, despreocupados y divertidos.

He leído que Tagazhout tiene una energía milenaria que cautiva a todo aquél que lo visita. (Doy fe de ello) Los primeros en llegar a esta villa fueron los surfistas en busca de la ola perfecta en los años setenta y hoy por hoy son los yoguis y los artistas los que descubren que este paraíso es un remanso de paz.

Munga Guesthouse es el resultado de 14 años de trabajo por parte de sus dueños, Mounir Bouallaq, un surfista pro que ha competido a nivel local e internacional y de su mujer Gabriela Matti, una diseñadora de interiores suiza que creció en Brasil, estudió el bachillerato en Miami y tuvo un exitoso estudio de diseño de interiores en Gstaad.

Tendencia natural a no echar raíces y al movimiento, hicieron a Gabriela comenzar a diseñar casas por el mundo. Sus clientes le solían dar carta blanca (no me extraña, su gusto es exquisito) Un día, Gabriela fue a Agadir a buscar un juego de backgammon para una casa que estaba decorando. Allí conoció a Mounir. Conectaron enseguida y decidieron instalarse en Taghazout en una casa que alquilaron y posteriormente compraron. Para permitir la estancia de amigos, comenzaron a decorar la casa con objetos hechos por ellos mismos. Esos amigos, trajeron a otros amigos...y de repente Mounir y Gabriela se encontraron convirtiéndose en hoteleros. La historia es genial. ¿No os parece?

Tagazhout is a charming little fishing village 19km north of Agadir and Munga Guesthouse is a perfect fit. The village is known to be a surfer's paradise and has that surfer hangout vibe. It is very artistic, with a lot of positive energy, a bit hippie and with an air of freedom. If you don't surf, you'll love this little town too. It is perfect to disconnect and to slow down the pace and its inhabitants are simple, close, carefree and fun.

I have read that Tagazhout has a millenary energy that captivates everyone who visits it. (I attest to that). The first to arrive in this village were surfers in search of the perfect wave in the seventies and today it is the yogis and artists who discover that this paradise is a haven of peace.

Munga Guesthouse is the result of 14 years of work by its owners, Mounir Bouallaq, a pro surfer who has competed locally and internationally and his wife Gabriela Matti, a Swiss interior designer who grew up in Brazil, studied high school in Miami and had a successful interior design studio in Gstaad.

A natural tendency not to put down roots and to move around, made Gabriela start designing houses all over the world. Her clients used to give her carte blanche (no wonder, her taste is exquisite). One day, Gabriela went to Agadir to look for a backgammon set for a house she was decorating. There she met Mounir. They immediately connected and decided to settle in Taghazout in a house they rented and later bought. To allow friends to stay, they started to decorate the house with self-made objects. These friends brought other friends... and suddenly Mounir and Gabriela found themselves becoming hoteliers. The story is great, don't you think?

En este lugar Mounir y Gabriela han hecho magia a base de materiales reciclados, mucha madera, puertas absolutamente maravillosas originarias de pueblos bereberes, (Mounir pasó años buscándolas), herrajes, troncos de árboles gigantes, contraventanas recicladas de madera flotante, cuerdas o incluso un barco convertido en una cama. Muchos de estos materiales eran encontrados por sus dueños en las playas y posteriormente reconvertidos de forma absolutamente asombrosa.

El espacio se distribuye en tres edificios llenos de terrazas con unas vistas alucinantes al mar y está compuesto por18 habitaciones clasificadas en 3 tipologías: mini suites, suites y magnums y tres suites adicionales que no aparecen en su web, (efecto wow asegurado si tienes la suerte de poder descubrirlas. O quien sabe, quizá reservas y de repente te encuentras con un upgrade. En Munga todo puede suceder...), el restaurante Favela situado en los áticos de una de sus maravillosas terrazas y Munga`s Kitchen en la parte de abajo, super animado para picotear y cenar y el place to be de todo Tagazhout por las noches.

In this place Mounir and Gabriela have made magic out of recycled materials, lots of wood, absolutely wonderful doors from Berber villages (Mounir spent years looking for them), ironwork, giant tree trunks, recycled driftwood shutters, ropes or even a boat turned into a bed. Many of these materials were found by their owners on the beaches and later reconverted in absolutely amazing ways.

The space is distributed in three buildings full of terraces with amazing sea views and is composed of 18 rooms classified into 3 types: mini suites, suites and magnums and three additional suites that do not appear on its website, (wow effect assured if you are lucky enough to discover them. Or who knows, maybe you book and suddenly you find yourself with an upgrade. In Munga anything can happen), Favela restaurant located in the penthouses of one of its wonderful terraces and Munga`s Kitchen downstairs, super lively for snacking and dining and the place to be all Tagazhout at night.

Munga Guesthouse nació cuando a parte de los amigos, la gente comenzaba a tocar a las puertas de la casa de Mounir y Gabriela para ver si alquilaban habitaciones. Fue entonces cuando la pareja decidió comprar los edificios vecinos y comenzar con el desarrollo de este proyecto cuyo resultado es cálido, acogedor y con una absoluta atención y orientación al detalle. Munga es la combinación de las primeras sílabas de los nombres de esta pareja y también el nombre de surfista de Mounir.

Cada habitación en Munga es única y tiene su propio estilo, al igual que las áreas de los diferentes espacios en los 3 edificios en los que Munga Guesthouse se ubica. Mounir aprendió carpintería después de obsesionarse con las puertas de madera de thuya bereberes y la pareja ha hecho en el espacio una hazaña de carpintería alucinante. Cuando miras algunos detalles del espacio y piensas que todo está hecho y supervisado por ellos, no puedes pensar otra cosa más que aquí hay volcado mucho trabajo duro, pasión, y por supuesto mucho amor .

Munga Guesthouse was born when, apart from friends, people started knocking on the doors of Mounir and Gabriela's house to see if they could rent rooms. It was then when the couple decided to buy the neighboring buildings and start with the development of this project whose result is warm, cozy and with an absolute attention and orientation to detail. Munga is the combination of the first syllables of this couple's names and also Mounir's surfer name.

Each room in Munga is unique and has its own style, as do the areas of the different spaces in the 3 buildings in which Munga Guesthouse is located. Mounir learned carpentry after becoming obsessed with Berber thuya wood doors and the couple has made the space a mind-blowing feat of carpentry. When you look at some of the details of the space and think that everything is made and supervised by them, you can't think anything else but that there is a lot of hard work, passion, and of course a lot of love poured in here .

Let's take a look at a few of the rooms

En Munga Guesthouse existe obsesión por recuperar la madera y con los árboles y la vida que nos dan. Hay madera y troncos de árbol tallados por todos lados.

En las diferentes suites, hay mucha piezas únicas hechas a mano por la propiedad, como por ejemplo las estatuas de elefantes o los cojines de cuero de esta misma habitación.

En otros casos, se utilizan guiños a determinadas culturas, como en la habitación bereber, en la que hay una escalera sahariana tallada a mano en un tronco de arbol con peldaños realizados con la misma técnica que se usa en la tradición bereber. Se usa para subir al la cama superior.

Otra habitación refleja las kasbahs, evocando el pasado medieval de Marruecos. y en otros casos, dormimos en una cama colgante para que cuando te despiertes tengas siempre el mar brillante como primera visión.

Hay otra suite que representa las antiguas civilizaciones saharianas de los Dogón y de Tombuctú y el arte único de Malí. Y otra que refleja perfectamente el Serengueti y la vida safarí.

En otra se utilizan troncos de dátiles como pilares de la cama que fueron encontradas en una playa vecina y blanqueadas por el sol. En otra, los molinillos de una almanzara de un pueblo vecino. Y un barco pesquero recuperado, hace las veces de cama en otra de las habitaciones.

En Munga gran parte de los objetos y del arte hecho a mano, tiene su origen en madera flotante recuperada de ríos y mar: palmeras datileras, árboles de argán, alcornoques y cipreses, entre otros.

At Munga Guesthouse there is an obsession with reclaiming wood and with trees and the life they give us. There is wood and tree trunks carved everywhere.

In the different suites, there are many unique pieces handmade by the property, such as the elephant statues or the leather cushions in this room.

In other cases, nods to certain cultures are used, as in the Berber room, where there is a Saharan staircase hand-carved from a tree trunk with steps made with the same technique used in the Berber tradition. It is used to climb to the upper bed.

Another room reflects the kasbahs, evoking Morocco's medieval past. And in other cases, we sleep on a hanging bed so that when you wake up you always have the shimmering sea as your first sight.

There is another suite representing the ancient Saharan civilizations of the Dogon and Timbuktu and the unique art of Mali. And another perfectly reflects the Serengeti and safari life.

In another, date trunks are used as bedposts that were found on a neighboring beach and bleached by the sun. In another, the millstones of an almanzara from a neighboring village. And a recovered fishing boat serves as a bed in another of the rooms.

In Munga a large part of the objects and handmade art, has its origin in floating wood recovered from rivers and sea: date palms, argan trees, cork oaks and cypresses, among others.

Sin palabras, ¿verdad? Yo estuve en la Moroccan Suite y me sentí genial en esta habitación. Es que todo en Munga tiene una energía muy bonita, en serio.

Y como ya conocéis los que me seguís sobre mi obsesión con los baños, que sepáis que este es de diez. Ducha calentita y con mucha presión y la decoración perfecta con materiales naturales y azulejos de zellige.

La suite era amplísima, la cama muy cómoda, la decoración preciosa con lámparas de colores y madera tallada a mano en pilares antiguos y un saloncito con muebles bajos. Era perfecta.

Cada habitación es única, son super amplias y con una mezcla de estilos africano-marroquí que enamora, así que si te decides por reservar en Munga, cosa que te recomiendo encarecidamente, no te preocupes por cuál habitación elegir, no pienses que hay alguna mejor que otra, porque son todas absolutamente maravillosas. Yo tuve la suerte de hacer un recorrido por el espacio con el manager de Munga, Ritzk, y os prometo que nada de lo que vi me dejó indiferente.

Todas las camas en las habitaciones de Munga están elevadas y tienes que subir a ellas a través de diferentes métodos para que cuando te despiertes sean las vistas la la ventana lo primero que tus ojos ven. Nada está colocado al azar en este especial lugar.

Además Munga tiene un ambiente auténticamente surfero, con lo que los aventureros en búsqueda de la ola perfecta con un presupuesto más moderado, también tienen la oportunidad de alojarse en este espacio en dos dormitorios super acogedores a su disposición.

Speechless, isn't it? I was in the Moroccan Suite and I felt great in this room. Everything in Munga has such a beautiful energy, really.

And as those of you who follow me already know about my obsession with bathrooms, I want you to know that this one is a ten. Warm shower with lots of pressure and the perfect decoration with natural materials and zellige tiles.

The suite was very spacious, the bed very comfortable, the decoration beautiful with colorful lamps and hand-carved wood on antique pillars and a small living room with low furniture. It was perfect.

Each room is unique, super spacious and a mix of African-Moroccan styles that makes you fall in love, so if you decide to book at Munga, which I highly recommend, do not worry about which room to choose, do not think that there is one better than another, because they are all absolutely wonderful. I was lucky enough to take a tour of the space with Munga's manager, Ritzk, and I promise you that nothing I saw left me indifferent.

All the beds in Munga's rooms are elevated and you have to climb up to them through different methods so that when you wake up, the view from the window is the first thing your eyes see. Nothing is randomly placed in this special place.

Munga also has an authentic surfing atmosphere, so adventurers in search of the perfect wave with a more moderate budget, also have the opportunity to stay in this space in two super cozy dorms at their disposal.

En las fotos del bloque anterior, veis parte de lo que es el salón-recepción con chimenea que hace las veces de Munga's Kitchen por las noches y que ya os he comentado que es el place to be de Tagazouth. Cené una noche aquí y el ambiente era genial. Pueden venir a conocerlo y a cenar o comer personas que no estén alojadas en Munga y tiene opciones veganas y pasta, pizza, .burgers, etc y tiene un estilo playero y ambiente internacional único.

También veis parte de una terraza azotea en este mismo edificio con vistas también geniales en la que hay una pequeña piscina para remojarte mientras tomas el sol o lees tranquilamente.

In the photos of the previous block, you can see part of what is the reception room with fireplace that serves as Munga's Kitchen in the evenings and that I have already mentioned that it is the place to be in Tagazouth. I had dinner here one night and the atmosphere was great. People who are not staying at Munga's can come for dinner or lunch and it has vegan options and pasta, pizza, burgers, etc. and has a unique beach style and international ambiance.

You also see part of a rooftop terrace in this same building with great views where there is a small pool to soak in while sunbathing or reading quietly.

Las fotos anteriores corresponden al restaurante Favela, el lugar donde te enamorarás de Tagazhout viendo los colores que deja el cielo al atardecer sobre la bahía y las impresonantes vistas que tienen estas azoteas. Estamos en el punto más alto de todo Taghazout. El restaurante sirve cocina tradicional y mediterranea, mariscos locales frescos, tapas caseras y unos postres espectaculares. Se requiere reserva porque todo se prepara día a día.

The above photos correspond to Favela restaurant, the place where you will fall in love with Tagazhout watching the colors that the sky leaves at sunset over the bay and the breathtaking views that have these rooftops. We are at the highest point of all Taghazout. The restaurant serves traditional and Mediterranean cuisine, fresh local seafood, homemade tapas and spectacular desserts. Reservations are required because everything is prepared day by day.

Una de las cosas que no os he contado es que Mounir y Gabriela viajan mucho, de ahí es de donde obtienen su inspiración, pero su base actualmente sí que es Taghazout.

Munga Guesthouse es un proyecto consciente, ecológico y sostenible (la electricidad viene de paneles solares, se incentiva el minimizar el uso de plásticos, etc) y mientras otras grandes cadenas hoteleras aún están comenzando a caminar en esta dirección, la visión de Mounir y de Gabriela fue esta desde el principio del proyecto.

Tambien ambos participan en proyectos para retornar a la comunidad local, como por ejemplo la reforma de una casa de una niña vecina con discapacidades, la restauración del barrio, la búsqueda de nuevos dueños para perros callejeros o crear lugares de encuentro para los jóvenes del pueblo.

Y una vez que sales de estas maravillosas puertas dispersadas por todo el espacio. ¿Qué es lo que te encuentras? Pues como no podía ser de otra manera, un universo mágico. Sigue leyendo...

One of the things I haven't told you is that Mounir and Gabriela travel a lot, that's where they get their inspiration from, but their home base is actually Taghazout.

Munga Guesthouse is a conscious, ecological and sustainable project (electricity comes from solar panels, minimizing the use of plastics is encouraged, etc) and while other big hotel chains are still starting to walk in this direction, Mounir and Gabriela's vision was this from the beginning of the project.

They are also both involved in projects to give back to the local community, such as renovating the house of a disabled neighbor girl, restoring the neighborhood, finding new owners for stray dogs or creating meeting places for the youth of the village.

En mis historias destacadas de Instagram, en la carpeta de Taghazout podéis ver un resumen de mi estancia en el pueblito, pero quiero hablaros por aquí de dos cositas que os recomiendo visitar cuando vayáis a este lugar.

Taghazout tiene una atmósfera relajada y tranquila. Muy buena onda, da gusto salir a caminar y pasear por sus calles o por la playa. En el paseo marítimo del pueblo, me encontré con el chico de la foto, Mohamed Youss, en Instagram @mohamedyouno

Lo tenéis que conocer y no os digo que lo busquéis, porque si dais una vuelta por el pueblo veréis su puesto. Él diseña y crea ropa vintage única que no daña el medio ambiente, por ejemplo, utiliza y recicla bolsas de café en grano y accesorios ecológicos para convertirlos en prendas únicas.

Mohamed tiene 28 años y nació en Taroudant, lugar que le dio la inspiración para su trabajo a partir de la observación de su entorno: los vendedores de café de los mercados, los coloridos zocos llenos de alfombras y objetos vintage y también por la curiosidad que le generaba el oficio de su padre, que trabajaba en una curtiduría. Su padre le enseñó a diseñar bolsos con detalles intrincados.

In my highlighted Instagram stories, in the Taghazout folder you can see a summary of my stay in the little town, but I want to tell you here about two little things that I recommend you to visit when you go to this place.

Taghazout has a relaxed, calm and laid-back atmosphere. Very good vibe, it's nice to go for a walk and stroll through the streets or along the beach. On the promenade of the village, I met the guy in the photo, Mohamed Youss, on Instagram @mohamedyouno

You have to meet him and I'm not telling you to look for him, because if you take a walk around the village you will see his stall. He designs and creates unique vintage clothing that doesn't harm the environment, for example, he uses and recycles coffee bean bags and eco-friendly accessories to turn them into unique garments.

Mohamed is 28 years old and was born in Taroudant, a place that gave him the inspiration for his work from observing his surroundings: the coffee sellers in the markets, the colorful souks full of carpets and vintage objects and also from the curiosity generated by the trade of his father, who worked in a tannery. His father taught him to design intricately detailed bags.

Taghazout es un pueblo surfero pero también con mucha creatividad, mucho arte y mucho flow. Como Mohamed no se sentía comprendido en su ciudad de nacimiento, comenzó a viajar y darse a conocer en diferentes lugares. Se fue a Senegal, donde conoció a gente que cosía y fabricaba ropa y acabó instaladose en Taghazout donde trabaja con un equipo en el pequeño taller que dirige. Lo encontraréis en el Boulevard.
